At Montage, we talk a lot about making hiring a two-way experience for candidates. In fact, 32% of job seekers surveyed who declined a job offer in the last six months said they declined the offer primarily because of the hiring experience itself1.

Purple Haze: Marijuana's Unclear Place at Work (Part 1)

Overshadowed perhaps by the results of the presidential election on November 8th, voters in eight states passed referenda to legalize marijuana use. Voters in four states— California, Maine, Massachusetts, and Nevada—voted to legalize the recreational use of marijuana (Arizona being the only state in which the proposition failed). Voters in Arkansas, Florida, Montana, and North Dakota voted for the legalization of the medical use of marijuana.

Why Video Chat Tools Don't Get the Job Done in Healthcare Hiring

Many of our healthcare clients have something remarkable in common: They’ve tested the waters of video interviewing with Skype (or a similar chat tool), and quickly moved to a purpose-built solution. Why is this? Simply put, a general video chat tool is not designed to solve the challenges of healthcare hiring.  The travel savings are there, but it’s missing what’s needed to impact healthcare recruiters’ priorities: Offering a brand-elevating, mind-blowing candidate experience, and getting to the offer stage with the best talent faster.

Using Your Digital Employer Brand to Bring in Top Candidates

Yesterday I tried to wrap my brain around this headline from a local employment ad: “We’re always working to work better. If that works for you, we’d like you to work for us.”  Yes, this is a real ad, but I doubt it’s getting real results. Never mind that it was in the printed newspaper – what struck me (beyond the tongue-twisting text) is that any candidate who sees this cannot get any sense of what it means to be employed at this company. It’s a very vanilla headline in a place where employers need
to differentiate themselves. Many of our clients are doing this right, communicating their brands digitally to engage top talent. Video interviewing plays a vital role in giving their candidates an authentic look at their employment experience.

Software Advice says Skype Falls Short in Business Recruiting

There’s a new article out by Software Advice, a company that hosts reviews of interview solutions, which hits a long-time Montage message further out of the park: Skype is not suited for the business of hiring. According to author Brian Westfall, senior market research associate at Software Advice, "Although many recruiters use Skype to conduct video interviews with candidates, if organizations want to get serious about shortening their time to hire and truly finding the best candidate for the job, especially
as they grow and the number of applicants per position becomes overwhelming, they need to invest in a dedicated video recruiting platform to improve candidate experience."
While Montage’s own research proves this point, it’s nice to see it stated so succinctly by a leading IT research and advisory company too.

Are You Doing All You Can to Determine Right Fit?

Personality assessments are old news, right? I mean, 89% of the Fortune 500 use the Myers-Briggs Type Indicator to evaluate their new hires. They’ve been doing so for years. Personality assessments are even in use in middle schools these days to help teens start to explore their career interests. However, there’s a new and growing application: assessment of job candidates. Business advisory company CEB reports that 62% of human resources professionals are using personality assessments to vet candidates in the hiring process. If your organization doesn’t use pre-hire personality assessments, now may be the time to explore them.  A purpose-built video interviewing solution like Montage’s platform could be your easy entry into this hiring practice.
